Why I Recommend the Positive Grid Spark Ecosystem

If you’re looking for a guitar or bass setup that just works, I highly recommend the Positive Grid Spark range. I’ve owned plenty of traditional amps before, specifically various Blackstar models, but I’ve moved away from them.

Having owned the Spark 40, the Spark Mini, and now the Spark 2, along with the Spark Control X, here is why this is the system I suggest.

1. Everything in One Ecosystem

The biggest draw is how much you get without needing a room full of gear. It’s one system that handles everything.

  • Versatile Tones: You can tune into almost any sound imaginable through the app. Whether I'm playing electric guitar or bass, it handles both at a high standard.

  • Bluetooth Speakers: These aren't just amps; they are high-quality Bluetooth speakers. You can play your backing tracks directly through the amp and jam along instantly.

  • The Spark 2: This is the latest version and it's a huge step up. It’s 50W, louder, clearer, and includes a built-in looper which makes playing much more fun.

2. True Portability

I’m all about keeping my kit lean. One of the best things about the Spark 2 is the optional rechargeable battery.

  • 12 Hours of Playtime: You can just grab the amp and take it anywhere without needing to hunt for a power socket. It's properly portable.

  • The Mini: If you want to go even lighter, the Spark Mini is battery-powered by default and sounds massive for its size. I’ve taken mine everywhere.

3. Simplified Control

I’ve moved away from using a lot of traditional guitar amps and pedals. I prefer a clean workspace that is ready to go the second I hit the power button.

  • Spark Control X: This is the only "pedal" I really use now. It’s a wireless foot controller with six switches that lets me swap presets and toggle effects without touching the amp.

  • Wireless Ease: It connects automatically via Bluetooth, meaning zero setup time.

Final Thoughts

If you want a setup that is lightweight, portable, and easy to use, I'd suggest looking at the Spark gear. I still keep a Wah pedal for that specific feel, and I'm looking at adding a Whammy DT or a Boss GM-800 in the future, but for 90% of my playing, the Spark ecosystem is all I need.

It’s the ideal setup for anyone who wants high-quality results without the "old school" headache of heavy gear and long setup times.
